Recipe type: Bread
Serves: 12
Ingredients
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1½ tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ cup butter or shortening
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425F.
  2. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl. Cut in fat with a pastry blender until mixture looks like bread crumbs. Make a well in the center and pour in starter. Stir until all flour is combined with the starter.
  3. Flour a board generously. Turn dough onto board and kneed just until smooth. Pat dough out about ½ inch in thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter (I just used a small inverted glass).
  4. Place biscuits on a lightly oiled cookie sheet. Cover pan with waxed paper, and place it in a warm, draft-free place, allowing biscuits to rise for about ½ hr.
  5. Bake 20-25 minutes until lightly browned. Serve immediately with lots of butter.
  6. Makes about 1 dozen biscuits.
